Published: January 19, 2023After more than 40 years of devoted work with the Algonquin Students’ Association (SA), Jack Doyle has announced his retirement from the position of General Manager, Algonquin Students’ Association for Fall 2023. I’d like to share some thoughts as we reflect on Jack’s legacy.
Jack joined the SA in 1982, holding various hospitality and student programming positions. Then, in 1990, the Board of Directors hired Jack as General Manager. In his 33 years as General Manager, Jack has seen the SA through so much growth beginning in 1996 with a renovated gymnasium, student lounge, and the addition of a new fitness centre, food service area and study space at the Ottawa Campus. In time, the SA added a new FIFA soccer pitch, new student facilities at the Perth Campus including a fitness centre, expanded facilities at the new waterfront Pembroke Campus, including a fitness centre and a gymnasium long-desired by students, and which now boasts our first climbing wall. This was capped off by the Student Commons in 2012 and most recently, the Athletics and Recreation Centre at the Ottawa Campus. These spaces have all become vital to student life at Algonquin College.
Jack has worked tirelessly with vision and dedication in supporting students to create an environment that inspires a passion for student success. He has been a crucial partner of the Board of Directors and a steadfast advocate for all Algonquin College students – past, present, and future.
I cannot overstate our appreciation for Jack’s passion and devotion through all these years. We will all miss him and always remember everything he has done for the SA over his 40+ years of service. If you see Jack in the next several months, please join me in giving him our sincerest gratitude and best wishes for the future.
Thank you, Jack.
