Moving Toward a Greener Future with Your SA

The 2020-2021 Board of Directors made it a priority to move towards more sustainable practices across all services offered to students. Find out how you can see it in action in all our food service locations!

The SA’s food services are designed to reduce waste and operate more sustainably. Over the years, we’ve worked to make all our hospitality locations more eco-friendly. Here are some of the ways we’re moving toward a greener future!

Sustainable Packaging

Our sustainability practices start long before your meal gets to your table. We choose suppliers who care about making a difference. That means looking for suppliers who use less plastic and more recyclable packaging. Being eco-friendly isn’t just about what you see on your table – it’s everything behind the scenes, too!

Eliminating Single-Use Plastics

One plastic bag or fork might not seem like a lot, but they add up quickly. We’re eliminating those plastics wherever we can. Our takeout containers are either recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable – and so is our bamboo cutlery. Our restaurants save about 1,000 plastic bags every week by choosing more sustainable options!

Reducing Waste

We have bins for food scraps, recycling, and composting. Everything has a place. Organic matter deserves a special mention – it gets processed using our biodigester, which breaks the matter down into grey water that can be recycled and used for plants.

Knowing what bin everything goes in might sound complicated, but we’ve got you covered! When you dine with us, you can leave your plates at the table, and our staff will sort them for you.

When it comes to sustainability, every little step matters. We’ve gotten this far in the last several years, and we have so much more room to keep growing. Dine with us and contribute to a greener future!
