On Friday, November 27, 2020, the Algonquin Students’ Association celebrated the 25th Faculty Recognition Awards. This event was originally scheduled to take place in April but was postponed and moved to a virtual format due to COVID-19.

Each year, students nominate professors who have gone above and beyond in the classroom. Nominations are reviewed by a committee of students and SA staff who select the award recipients.

The recipients of the Excellence in Teaching Award are:

  • Blerim Qela, Ottawa Campus
  • Jancess Pheona Pinnock, Perth Campus
  • Jenny Hodgson, Pembroke Campus
  • Marina Westbrook, Ottawa Campus
  • Paul Zwicker, Ottawa Campus
  • Sharmeen Charania, Ottawa Campus

Two additional awards are handed out at this event. The Chris Warburton Award of Excellence is awarded to a community member who has made outstanding contributions to student life at Algonquin College.

The recipient of the Chris Warburton Award for 2020 is:
Bryan Eburne, Manager, Fees, Curriculum and Reporting

The Algonquin Students’ Association Board of Directors Award is new this year. The Board created this award to honour a college community member who is in a student-facing role on all campuses and has made a significant contribution to the Board’s priorities.

The inaugural recipient of the Algonquin Students’ Association Board of Directors Award is:

Sarah Crawford, Sexual Violence Prevention and Harm Reduction Coordinator

Please join the SA in celebrating all of this year’s award recipients.

The winners of the Faculty Recognition Awards tune in to the virtual awards ceremony.
