Elections - Algonquin Students' Association

The Board of Directors is made up of full-time SA fee-paying members. Each November, nominations open to fill the seats on the Board for the next academic year. Any full-time Algonquin College student who has paid all SA membership fees is eligible to seek nomination. Please note, to run for President or Vice-President, you must first be elected as a Director.

Nominations for the 2025-2026 Board of Directors open at noon on Monday, November 18, 2024, and close at 4:59pm on Friday, January 24, 2025.

Start the Nomination Process

Step 1

Before you begin, we encourage you to read the SA Board Policies.

Nomination Packages are available starting Monday, November 18, 2024, at 12:00pm.

Begin the nomination process by filling out the Nomination Package form online and uploading your cover letter and resume. Your cover letter must be no longer than one page and should answer the following question: Why do you want to serve in a leadership position on the Students’ Association Board of Directors?

The deadline to complete the Nomination Package form is Friday, January 24, 2025, at 4:59pm.

Submit Nomination Package

Step 2

Once your nomination package has been confirmed, you will be notified via email that your name has been added to the Candidate Endorsement form. This typically takes one business day.

You need 50 signatures from full-time Algonquin College students to become a nominee for the 2025-2026 Algonquin Students’ Association Board of Directors.

The deadline to collect endorsements is Friday, January 24, 2025, at 4:59pm.

Endorse Candidate(s)

Step 3

Please provide a transcript for the Fall 2024 semester. You must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.25, or its equivalent from another institution. Algonquin College transcripts are available for free at the Registrar’s Office.

The deadline to submit your transcript is Friday, January 24, 2025, at 4:59pm.

Step 4

Once your nomination package and 50 endorsements have been submitted, the Board’s Elections Officer (EO) will review the information you provided to make sure it is complete.

If you meet all requirements listed in the package, the EO will invite you to a mandatory candidate orientation taking place on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. At the orientation, you will learn more about what it is like to be a Director, and you will schedule your interview with the selection committee.

The selection committee will interview all Director candidates and recommend a group of eight students to form the 2025-2026 Algonquin Students’ Association Board of Directors. If you are one of the recommended Directors, the EO will contact you to explain the process of becoming elected to the Board of Directors.

The deadline to submit proxy votes is Monday, March 17, 2025, at 12:00pm.
