Fees and Eligibility - Algonquin Students' Association

How it Works

Your Students’ Association offers health insurance through WeSpeakStudent.

The Student Health Plan coverage period runs from September 1 to August 31 every year.

You only pay for the coverage you receive, so eligible students who start their classes in the Winter (January) or Spring (May) semesters pay a reduced health plan fee. The health plan fee is charged in your first semester of class during the Health Plan coverage period.

Once you are enrolled in the Student Health Plan, you will be covered until the following August 31 even if you graduate or if you do not have classes.

After August 31 each year:

  1. If you do not have classes in the upcoming Fall semester, you will lose your coverage until you are eligible again.
  2. If you do have classes in the upcoming Fall semester and meet eligibility requirements, you will pay the full health plan fee and have coverage for another year until the following August 31.

Health Plan Fee

The Health Plan fee is included in tuition for students who are eligible for automatic enrollment in the Student Health Plan. Students who are not automatically enrolled may be eligible to opt in to the Student Health Plan.

Refunds for the Health Plan fee are available to students with existing health insurance who would like to opt out of the Student Health Plan.
