Amanda is the Events Programmer for the Algonquin Students’ Association. She strives to lift women up in her work and that can be seen through programming such as Bad + Bitchy LIVE, Skye Wallace, and Chanel Miller: A Virtual Lecture. Before working for the SA, Amanda co-authored the Ottawa Fringe’s Sexual Violence and Prevention Policy, a document dedicated to making safer spaces at Ottawa theatre events.
March 8 is International Women’s Day, celebrated worldwide to recognize the achievements of women everywhere. More than that, it’s a day to raise awareness for equality for women – it’s a call to action! International Women’s Day is an inclusive occasion where everybody can make a difference in supporting gender equality.
At the SA, we are celebrating with the International Women’s Day Food Drive! From 11:00am to 3:00pm in the Student Commons (E Building), we will be collecting non-perishable items for the SA Food Cupboard. We’re specifically seeking period products, including pads and tampons!
When you come by with your donation, we invite you to also share with us a woman who inspires you. Together, we’re going to build a visual community garden of the women who have changed and transformed all of our lives.
I can’t wait to see you there – and I can’t wait to see the beautiful garden of inspirational women who have made us who we are today.
